waiting to be called

THE CATCHPHRASE: "God called me"

You've heard it. "I think God's calling me to be a mother." "Is God calling you to be a missionary?" "What do you think God's calling you to do?"

Do you ever wonder what God has called you to do?

REALITY: Is that God calls every single Christian.

And I know what you're thinking. Of course God calls every single Christian! And then you list off the pastors, the missionaries, the mothers, the doctors, the lawyers, the politicians, the evangelists, the conference speakers...

Or at least I did.

AND I WAS LIKE: sitting on my bed wondering what on earth God was "calling" me to do.

We've got this mindset that you need to twiddle your thumbs while you wait for some sign from heaven to come down and direct you to your next station in life. I'd really do something for You God - but You need to write it in the sky first!

Well. I don't recall Jesus telling us to wait to be 'called', but I do recall the saying:

If you love me you'll keep my commandments. {John 14:15}

Whether you have an official title of pastor, missionary, author, speaker - it doesn't matter. God already called you on day one.

It's not like God left you hanging, to guess what He wanted you to act on. He sorta left a rather obvious hint in a rather thick book. Take the first and greatest commandment. (which is, by the way: you shall love the Lord your God with all Your heart, soul and might) How about the second greatest commandment?
